As a father of 4 and the owner of a small business that helps kids learn how to code, I worry if we are preparing our kids for a future with AI and other advanced technologies.
What kinds of skills will our kids need to thrive in the future? I believe some of the most important skills our children will need include creativity, problem solving, collaboration, empathy for others, communication, adaptability, perseverance, and self-directed learning. While these have always been important, I believe being good at these things will be even more vital as AI develops.
How do we help kids develop these skills? We put them in situations where they have to create or build something. We encourage them to start their own business, code a video game, or start their own non-profit that helps other people. When they are put in these situations, they are forced to develop the critical skills they need for the future.
